A former correctional officer at the Madison Correctional Facility has been arrested on sexual and official misconduct charges, the Indiana Department of Correction announced.
Robert L. Jones, 38, was arrested Thursday after an internal investigation, the news release said. Madison Correctional Facility is a minimum-security prison for women that houses about inmates and runs a work release program for another 58 inmates, according to its website. An inmate at the facility told investigators she and Jones are in love, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Jefferson Superior Court.
During a June 20 interview, the woman told investigators their relationship began when she was ased to a highway work detail that Jones supervised. The woman said she and Jones kissed for the first time in December and had sex for the first time in Januaryaccording to the court documents.
While the woman says the sex was consensual, it's against the law for a guard to have sex with an inmate in Indiana. Jones, hired inabruptly quit his job on June 20 — the same day investigators interviewed the inmate, according to the affidavit.
He refused to speak to investigators without an attorney, the affidavit said. More: Man convicted in killing of liquor store owner.
